This is the last of my series on oaks in the Sacramento area vineyards. The most surprising response has been long time locals not aware of the abundance of grapes growing so close to the city. On the other hand if these were tomato fields, no one would be surprised. To me tomatoes and grapes are both agriculture products and each grow well in this district.

The idea of these big oaks in the middle of a vineyard appeals to my sense of grandeur in the outdoors. They really look tall compared to the vines which in this case are about five feet tall.

This entire vineyard’s grapes were harvested leaving vines that have sort of a fresh haircut look. I could not find one bunch of grapes hanging. No matter, the setting was ideal with the dry leaves at my feet being pushed around by a gentle breeze. This was a very tranquil place to visit and I was breathing easy while taking in the orderliness of each row of vines contrasted by jumble of nearby oaks.

The grapes are in, the wine making has begun in earnest. Today I thought I could find some vines with fruit but most everywhere near my house the harvest has finished. This is a great time to visit a winery. Okay, anytime is a great time to visit a winery but right now they have once a year tasks underway and that is interesting.

No question, the enjoyment of wine and cheese goes across many cultures. For me trying to capture some of that feeling in my art has been a challenge. This latest work uses the backdrop of my kitchen tiles with a half loaf of my favorite bread. There are even a few olives too, just to make it complete. There are several different versions of this work and I would appreciate any feedback on your favorite version.
