Last week I visited New York City but could not find the picante sauce factory so often mentioned in the advertisements. ha ha.
While I was there many great photo opportunities availed themselves and I took as many pictures as possible. Lots of great ideas from the shots. Soon I will work with them and post results here. In the meantime the picture below was from my visit to Greenwich Village and this street had many galleries.

Along the southern entrance to Napa Valley is a row of trees next to the Hwy 12 bridge. When I spot those trees I always start feeling relaxed and ready for the fun Napa Valley offers. Usually I don’t go for dark or moody scenes but this one is different. At sunset on a clear day the view from those trees is absolutely glorious. The landscape of the entire north San Francisco Bay unfolds right in front of you. The scene makes me feel good inside and inspires a sense of awe. That is what I see when I look at these trees.

As a teenager growing up in colder climes east of the rockies I first saw a real palm tree in Northern California. Somehow it held me in a trance and ever since I love looking at them. The small groups of palms I saw then are nothing compared to groves in, well, Palm Springs. This view is actually in Palm Desert at the Marriott Desert Springs Hotel and there were hundreds of palms in a single view with about a dozen towering over all the rest. Throw in a nice mountain, fancy hotel, swimming pool, sunset, and you have all the ingredients of a classic winter afternoon in the desert.

Go back just a few years and it is difficult for me to believe how much the look of my work has changed. This version, I’ll call it “A” was done in August 2006 after my trip to Georgetown. To be truthful I didn’t like it and don’t recall posting it to my web site.
Please post your opinion because the feedback helps very much. Here is the same piece in today’s look. I’ll call this one “B” and still not sure if it belongs on my site.
The first thing I notice is chopping off the sky and trees in A. Its kind of dark up there. The colors of course are way into the bright zone in A too. For what its worth all my art seems to start with the primary colors and it takes me awhile to bring out the subtleties. Geez two years is a long time in this case. Any other differences?

These guys are not really from Alaska. However I did see them play on our family vacation cruise in Alaska. The north most state is so beautiful it was hard to take it all in during such a short visit. There are many images of the state in my mind and even more in my camera. Whatever the reason this is my first image from the cruise this summer. Like always I have several versions of this image. The others are all much lighter and more colorful. This one was my first version and I’m sticking with it. Let me know if you need to see another one.

The Public Market district was unknown to me until I saw the Meg Ryan Tom Hanks movie about 10 years ago. The sign, which even locals call iconic captured my imagination. Once on the scene, the smells, restaurants, and street singing swung me into a happy mood. This is a fun place.

My favorite time to see the fountains is evening because the lights make the already scenic water jets look even more impressive. On this visit the sun was just setting so the water lights were not a factor. What drew me most to the scene were the throngs of people lined up around the lake to see the show. The sun was gleaming off the Paris hotel across the street. It was a beautiful display of water and music. The crowd loved it. Once the show was over though, everyone moved on right away. Instead my wife and I stayed for a while and enjoyed the view. I’ll be visiting this one again. One change I may still make to the image below is cropping a small part of the bottom a bit. Please tell me your thoughts on this one.

The coast of Oregon consistently has some of the most beautiful bridges. Each one a little different but all in a similar style. It didn’t take much digging to find out many were designed by a man named Conde B. McCullough in the early 1930’s. This bridge in Florence is a good example of the ones I enjoyed seeing.
